March Education Update
March Residency featuring Jâca March 1-3

Jâca Residency: March 1 - 3

As part of a new partnership with the Guitar Society of Southern Oregon (GSSO), Jâca will visit local classrooms and be presented by GSSO in a ticketed performance for the community. "Jâca is a clarinet and guitar duo that combines classical and world music to bring an adventurous, passionate, and completely original musical style to the stage. Jâca’s music reflects the versatility of their instruments, using Western Classical training as a base to combine with their diverse musical and cultural heritage.

Jâca is passionate about adding meaning to their music, founding the Jâca Cultural Exchange Program (JCEP) in 2019 to support underserved musical communities worldwide. They also host the prestigious Emerging Composers Competition to create new music for clarinet and guitar. In an effort to promote positivity around multiculturalism in America, they launched Imaginary Boundaries in 2020. The project involves ongoing commissions of compositions from accomplished composers of various cultural backgrounds.

Welcome, Julie Gillis: Chief Development Officer

Britt is excited to introduce you to our new team member, Julie Gillis, who is our new Chief Development Officer. What is a Chief Development Officer, you might ask? Julie is in charge of Britt’s fundraising beyond ticket sales and ad revenue. So, if you’re a Business Partner or potential donor, you will be hearing from her.

Julie joins us with a great background in development. Her most recent role was Director of Individual Giving, Major Gifts at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where she managed and implemented the creation of major giving strategy and led the identification and development of relationships with new and current donors.  Prior to that, Julie was the Director of Development at Southern Oregon PBS, where she successfully built a new major and planned giving program.

On a personal note, Julie has resided in Southern Oregon since 2016, although she’s been visiting regularly since the 1990s. She enjoys the confluence of nature and culture that our valley offers, with hiking, snowshoeing, attending performances of all types, and eating at the great restaurants we have. She’s taken a local right of passage with a visit to the House of Mystery, too!

“I come from a musical family and feel like I have been involved with music since before I even was born!” says Julie. “I've been connected to the arts throughout my career and I'm thrilled about joining Britt and helping develop all the resources it needs to thrive and grow for years to come.” Welcome, Julie!

March Trivia

With the first Britt Presents Announcement just two days away, let’s change up the trivia question for this month:

Guess one of the artists that we will announce on March 3rd! With one exclusion - Michael Franti & Spearhead have come to Britt for 16 consecutive years. That’s just too easy. So, think about artists who’ve been to Britt before, or imagine one we haven’t brought and make a guess.

The 4th person to email Britt's Director of Marketing with a correct guess will win a poster signed by The Beach Boys in 2019. The prize is not a clue. We just think it’s a cool prize!

The winner will be notified on March 3rd.

Note: Britt Trivia winners who have won within the past six months are not eligible to win this month’s prize.
