Residency with Sō Percussion | Jan 26-28
Britt Education, in partnership with Chamber Music Concerts and The Oregon Center for the Arts at SOU, are hosting the world-renowned ensemble Sō Percussion. As part of their Residency, Sō Percussion will provide a workshop for local high school and college percussion students where they will learn the original Sō Percussion piece, “amid the noise”.
"Through a mix of consummate skill and quirky charm, this mercurial quartet has helped to ignite an explosive new enthusiasm for percussion music old and new." - NY Times
Sō Percussion is in its eighth year as Edward T. Cone performers-in-residence at Princeton University, and recently released their new album Narrow Sea, written for them by Caroline Shaw, who was also 2019 Britt Conducting Fellow and composer of Brush: Music in the Woodlands.
Performing most of the music in “amid the noise” does not require great physical virtuosity. In fact, the process of preparing these pieces is as important as the end result: in the best case, it affects the performer’s aesthetic attitude.
The students will perform “amid the noise” for the public at the SOU Recital Hall on January 27th. Students and faculty will be admitted for free to this performance. Sō Percussion will also be presented in concert at the recital hall on Friday, January 28th at 7:30pm
