Mt. Ashland Opens in Summer for First Time
The Mt. Ashland Ski Area will open in the summer for the first time starting this Saturday. Beginning May 27, the ski lodge will open its café and retail shop to the public every weekend through Labor Day. The café will be serving hot entrees, ice cream, shaved ice, and adult beverages. The ski area will also be offering events throughout the summer that will include movie nights, campfire get-togethers, mountain-top yoga, and other activities for all ages.
“Mt. Ashland is already one of the more popular summer destinations in southern Oregon, with access to so many great trails and epic views of the Rogue Valley and California,” said Andrew Gast, Mt. Ashland’s General Manager. “Our goal is to give all the visitors that are coming up for a hike, run, or bike ride a place to relax after their adventures. Our mountain is really special in the summer time, and we hope that those who have never visited will take a few hours to explore the unique alpine landscape or enjoy one of our sunsets over a meal or drinks."
Mt. Ashland will also be launching a Youth Adventure program. Children ages 7-12 can enroll in 3-hour sessions that will include hiking, nature, arts and crafts, and mountain sports. Mt. Ashland will also be working with interested youth groups to facilitate mountain programs during the week.
“These new summer programs really speak to our nonprofit mission,” said Gast. “At our core, we exist to provide and promote healthy alpine recreation. There is no better place in southern Oregon to enjoy the mountains than Mt. Ashland, and summer is just as wonderful as winter.”
Mt. Ashland is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ski area owned and operated by the Mt. Ashland Association under a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service, with a mission to provide healthy alpine recreation.
