Lomakatsi Restoration Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring ecosystems and the sustainability of communities, cultures and economies throughout Oregon and Northern California. For the last twenty years, Lomakatsi has been working with communities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, Native American Tribes, foundations and individuals to restore balance to damaged forests, woodlands, streams and rivers, and to re-build the livelihoods of communities that rely on those ecosystems. Their work has gained national recognition, providing a model for communities, government agencies and organizations throughout the United States to repair critical ecosystems by working together using traditional ecological knowledge as well as modern ecological forestry techniques. Key to their success has been the conscious inclusion of communities -- training and employing hundreds of local workers to implement restoration plans, and returning more than 8 million dollars back into communities in the last five years alone. Their youth stewardship programs and community restoration events inspire future generations to care for our region’s beautiful natural places, and their forest restoration techniques are helping to reduce the risk of wildfires and recharge water supplies in the Ashland Watershed, as well as throughout the thousands of acres they treat each year.
