ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum was founded in 2002 with the mission to inspire wonder among children and adults, and stimulate creative exploration through interactive science and the arts. The regional science center serves more than 60,000 visitors each year.

ScienceWorks staff members, with the help of dedicated volunteers, create, maintain and help visitors experience nearly 100 interactive exhibits, hands-on science and tinkering activities, and live science demonstrations. Year-round exhibits encourage visitors to explore energy, anatomy, chemistry, perception, motion, engineering, art and more in a mind-challenging, fun way. Performances and activities change frequently, offering something new with every visit.

Educational programs, serving 9 counties in southern Oregon and northern California, include an on-site Field Trip Program and an Illuminating Science Inquiry Outreach Program that supports teacher professional development, as well as public workshops, lectures, summer festivals and science camps.

ScienceWorks is funded through grants, donations, fundraising events and nearly 2,000 member families. The center began operating through a cooperative arrangement with the Kirlin Foundation and Southern Oregon University, and support from founders Sharon and John Javna and Dave and Marge Bernard.

ScienceWorks is a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers and the Northwest Association of Youth Museums. ScienceWorks exhibits have received national and international attention and have been sold to the Singapore Science Center, Technopolis in Belgium, Miami Museum of Science, Calgary Science Centre and other museums in the U.S.
