The Schneider Museum of Art is a major resource for the visual arts in southern Oregon. The museum was built in 1986 following a five-year community fundraising effort and the generous donation from William and Florence Schneider. Located on the campus of Southern Oregon University the museum presents a balanced slate of exhibitions and special projects, ranging from historical perspectives of art to progressive contemporary art. Exhibitions change every six to eight weeks.
Museum programs include gallery talks by visiting artists, films, workshops and artist studio visits. An active docent program offers tours of the museum’s exhibitions to schools, seniors, and other groups. Individuals interested in inquiring about a tour for their groups should call the museum. Past exhibitions and events featured such prominent artists as Andy Goldsworthy, Deborah Butterfield, Dale Chihuly, Hung Liu, Jacob Lawrence and Richard Notkin.
The museum is located on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street. Watch for the purple banners on the boulevard. Museum hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 am-4 pm. There is a $5 suggested donation. For more information call 541-552-6245.
