Ashland Wildfire Preparedness Campaign May Actions

Ashland residents - it’s time to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season through a three month preparedness campaign developed by Ashland Fire & Rescue and the Wildfire Safety Commission and supported by many local organizations, like ours, that are helping spread the word.
In May, we focus on preparing to evacuate or shelter in place. When wildfire comes to Ashland, residents need to be prepared to evacuate and help their neighbors. This means understanding the stages of evacuation and making a plan well in advance so that you know what to do if evacuation becomes necessary.
While less likely, it is also possible that we may need to shelter in place because of power outages or other issues related to a nearby wildfire. Having a 2-week emergency kit is important for not only wildfires, but other emergencies, such as earthquakes and floods.
Information about how we can prepare to evacuate or shelter in place is on display at local stores that sell supplies in May (Ace Hardware, BiMart, Grange Co-op, Ashland Lumber, Ashland Food Coop, and Market of Choice). The campaign will also have information at the Farmer’s Market.
