Oregon Association for the Education of Young Children - ORAEYC

Ashland, Oregon – Matt Leek, Chairman of the Board of Superkid Power, Inc. announced the January 29, 2019 publication of Janai Mestrovich’s initial Blog for the ORAEYC.  Janai is the Founder and Executive Director of SuperkidPower, Inc., a not for profit, 501(c)(3) organization advocating Universal Preschool with Social Emotional Learning (UPSEL).

ORAEYC is the Oregon State chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, headquartered in Washington, DC.  The  Oregon Blog was established in November 2017, using a team approach to write weekly columns on early childhood education topics.

In announcing the Blog, Alli Bannan of ORAEYC said, “We are pleased to announce the launch of our new blog! Our weekly posts will feature an inclusive collection of thoughts, experiences and reflections from four diverse Early Childhood professionals. Tune-in every Tuesday to connect with the thoughts of Early Childhood practitioners from varying perspectives on topics such as inclusion, nature-play, parent communication, and social emotional development. We hope that this blog will act as a place for inspiring conversations, member engagement and personal professional growth.  Please join in on the conversation by commenting on future posts and sharing with friends, families and coworkers!”

Janai’s initial Blog topic is ‘using empathy to provide a caring connection with youngsters’.

Janai will write future Blogs that teach early character building with focus on self awareness, self confidence and self respect as well as communication and collaboration skills leading to mutual respect for class mates, teachers and parents. Kids are taught how to recognize stress signals and how to use deep ‘belly button’ breathing to relax, think and make good choices.  This is demonstrated on her free video located on the website www.superkidpower.org

Janai Mestrovich, a.k.a. ‘Grandma Boom’, has recently taught social emotional  learning skills at the Briscoe Migrant program (division of Head Start) in Ashland, at Lone Pine Elementary and Griffin Creek Elementary in Medford, Sarah Corson Daycare, Talent Boys and Girls Club in Talent, OR and at the Promise Program division of the Family Nurturing Center (Phoenix, OR).

Janai is an early pioneer in children’s stress prevention programs. She has taught at the University of Oregon and Southern Oregon University. Her expertise includes producing and hosting award winning television series for kids and countless radio show interviews. She is an international speaker and an outrageously fun grandmother.
