Wildfire Forum: Strategies for Protecting Our Community

Southern Oregonians are deeply concerned about the impacts and threats of wildfire on our health, property and livelihoods. A Wildfire Forum planned for January 17 in Medford is an opportunity for residents to learn about the coordination among agencies, data utilized for decision-making, resources available for fighting catastrophic fires, and the need to adapt strategies in the face of changing and challenging conditions.
Come hear a panel of officials from State and Federal agencies who will share their insights into wildfire fighting strategies and plans. Oregon Department of Forestry’s Southern Oregon Area Director Dave Lorenz, Oregon State Fire Marshal Jim Walker, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Supervisor Merv George, and Ashland Fire & Rescue Forest Division Chief Chris Chambers will provide their agency’s perspectives. Additional panelist(s) may be announced.
Open to the public with free admission, this Wildfire Forum is the next chapter of the Smoke & Fire Summit hosted by Representative Pam Marsh, Oregon House District 5, in September 2018, which addressed the strategic, economic, health and climate impacts of wildfires. It will take place at Asante Smullin Health Education Center, 2825 E. Barnett Road in Medford.
