ASHLAND, OR - Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, under the direction of Dr. Paul French, will perform the first concert of its 33rd season, “Among Angels,” on Saturday, October 27th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, October 28th at 3:00 pm at the Music Recital Hall on the SOU campus in Ashland.

The concert will feature British composer Will Todd who will join Repertory Singers to help kick off the season.

Repertory Singers will perform Todd’s “Among Angels” for choir and two harps. Other Will Todd pieces to be performed are “Call of Wisdom” and “Angel Song II.” Mr. Todd himself will conduct “Call of Wisdom,” which will be sung by Repertory Singers and the SOU Chamber Choir. The concert will also include the music of com- posers Paul Mealor and Eric Whitacre as well as folk songs from Africa. Will Todd’s appearance is jointly sponsored by Repertory Singers and the Oregon Center for the Arts at SOU.

Will Todd is well known for his beautiful and exciting music. His work encompasses choral works large and small, opera, musical theatre and orchestral pieces, as well as jazz compositions and chamber works. His an- them, “The Call of Wisdom,” was performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a TV audience of 45 million people. His breakthrough work, “Mass in Blue,” has been performed hundreds of times all over the world.

His arrangement of “Amazing Grace” was performed at President Obama’s Inauguration Day prayer service in 2013 and as part of the BBC’s Nelson Mandela Thanksgiving Service. Will Todd’s music is valued for its melodic intensity and harmonic skill, often incorporating jazz colors, and his choral music is much in demand from amateur as well as professional performers.

“We are very fortunate to have Mr. Todd attend our performance dedicated to several of his beautiful pieces,” says Paul French. Mr. Todd will be leading a clinic/dress rehearsal open to the public at no charge on Saturday,

October 27th from 10 am to noon in the Music Recital Hall. He will participate in a Q & A discussion with the audience immediately following each performance.

“Among Angels” will be held in the SOU Music Recital Hall on S. Mountain Avenue in Ashland. There will be a free lecture by musicologist, Ed Wight, one hour prior to each concert in Room 132 of the Music Recital Hall building. Mr. Wight will provide background on the composers and the pieces to be performed.

Repertory Singers’ 60-voice ensemble is comprised of professional and semi-professional singers and music educators under the direction of Dr. Paul French, Director of Choral/Vocal Studies at Southern Oregon University.

Ticket prices for “Among Angels” are $27 and $33 Student tickets are now available in advance, however a student ID will need to be shown upon pick-up. Oregon Trail Pass holders can attend for $5 on the day of sale.
