Our Ancestors’ Sports January 16
All sorts of activities began popping up in the late 1800s, including baseball, horseracing, bicycling, swimming, target shooting, boxing, wrestling, theater, and parlor games. Following the sad years of the Civil War, leisure time activities were needed. And with the advances in medical care, came the recognition that exercise was good for one’s health – for men and women!
Join us January 16 and learn more about how your ancestors spent their leisure time. We’ll share pictures of grandmothers in their bathing costumes, in their bloomers, and in their middy blouses, as well as old family games such as pick-up-sticks, jacks or dominoes. You’re sure to recognize a lot of our old toys!
January 16, 1:30pm-3pm. Admission: Free! Jackson County Genealogy Library, 3405 S. Pacific Highway. To register call 541-512-2340, email reception.JCGL@gmail.com, or stop by the Genealogy Library.
