Camelot Presents Spotlight on Neil Diamond

“Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice. And before you know, it gets to feeling good, you simply got no choice.” ~ Neil Diamond

Camelot Theatre presents Spotlight On Neil Diamond to celebrate Diamond’s 50-years as a prolific singer, songwriter and entertainer.

Neil Diamond has sold over 130 million albums worldwide and has dominated the charts for more than five decades with 37 Top 40 singles and 16 Top 10 albums. He has achieved record sales with 40 Gold albums, 21 Platinum albums and 11 multi-platinum albums.

Before becoming one of the most noted and successful recording artists in the world, Neil Diamond's early recognition came as a songwriter. This production will feature many of his hit songs that have become a part of the fabric of America's songbook that include "Solitary Man," "Cherry Cherry," "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," "Holly Holy," "Sweet Caroline," "Kentucky Woman," "Cracklin' Rosie," "I Am…I Said," "Song Sung Blue," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," (Diamond with Barbra Streisand,) and "September Morn" amongst many others. A Grammy Award-winning artist, Diamond is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the highest honors bestowed upon songwriters. Diamond's many other achievements include a Golden Globe Award, 13 Grammy nominations, ASCAP Film and Television Award, Billboard Icon Award, American Music Award and 2009's NARAS's MusiCares Person of the Year award. In 2011, Diamond received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honor for his lifetime of contributions to American culture.

The production includes the vocal talents of Erik Connolly, with back-up vocals from Rose Passions and Kristin Calvin. Erik, an opera-trained tenor, most recently appeared at Camelot as Emile deBeque in select performances of South Pacific and in Spotlight on Peter, Paul & Mary.  Other roles at the Theatre include Lawrence in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Che in Evita, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Caleb in The Spitfire Grill. He has also appeared in a number of Camelot Spotlight productions, including Roy Orbison, Simon and Garfunkel, Jerry, Perry, and Dean, Irving Berlin, and Steve & Eydie.

Kristen was most recently seen on the Camelot stage as the Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, as well as Liza in Spotlight on Liza Minnelli. As a classically trained vocalist and musical theatre graduate from Ball State University, Kristen spent a few years singing professionally at various Chicago area events before relocating to Ashland with her husband. She recently returned from 2 months in Portland, playing Janis Joplin in Beehive, a 1960’s revue. Her favorite past roles include Magenta in Rocky Horror Picture Show (at OCT), Marian in The Music Man, and Ado Annie in Oklahoma.

Rose Passione holds a music degree from George Fox University. Some of her featured performances at Camelot include: Maria in The Sound of Music, Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, Spotlight on Irving Berlin, Spotlight on Carole King, Spotlight on Liza Minnelli, and Spotlight on Billy Joel. Other music credits locally include: Park Place Jazz, Broadway Out of the BLUE, Siskiyou Singers and Michele Scheffler's Musikstuff Oktoberfest Orchestra.
