Oregon 66 Closed for Slide Repair

ASHLAND — Oregon 66 will be closed east of Ashland (milepost 12) on Thursday, August 3 to repair a slide that reduced the highway to a single lane. Travelers will be detoured during the construction work.

The $700,000 slide repair was planned for summer 2018 but a wet spring led to concerns the roadway may collapse sooner, pushing the project schedule up.
“Our contractor plans to close the slide Thursday with the goal of having a single lane open by September 1, the Friday before Labor Day Weekend,” said ODOT District Manager Jerry Marmon.

“We know Oregon 66 is a lifeline for people living along the Greensprings and in Lincoln,” said Marmon, “however, the short-term inconvenience of a detour is far outweighed by the peace of mind that will come this winter knowing this repair project is the best solution to stop the highway from slipping down the mountain.”
