John Jackson Presents STEM Programs at the Library

Medford, Oregon (June 12, 2017) – This summer John Jackson of Bugs-R-Us will present a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs at Jackson County Libraries during the summer reading program. These free programs are sponsored by the Kenneth A. and Lucille D. Hulburt Family Trust and are for youth ages 12+, or 8-11 with a caregiver. All materials are provided. Pre-registration is required. 
 
Build an Altoids Flashlight - Jackson will teach youth how to turn an Altoids tin into a flashlight. Youth will learn the basics of circuitry as they assemble a flashlight that is theirs to keep during the following programs:
 
Wednesday, June 28 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Gold Hill Library, 202 Dardanelles St.
Tuesday, July 11 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Ashland Library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.
Thursday, July 13 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Central Point Library, 116 South Third St.
Monday, July 17 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the White City Library, 3143 Ave. C.
Thursday, July 27 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point Library, 239 West Main St.
Tuesday, August 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Ruch Library, 7919 Highway 238.
 
Make an Electromagnet – Youth can learn about circuits and build an electromagnet to keep. The device they make won’t pick up a car, but it can be used to experiment with paperclips and thumbtacks! The Make an Electromagnet program is offered on Thursday, June 29 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville Library, 340 West “C” St., and on Saturday, July 8 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Rogue River Library, 412 East Main St.
 
Build a Simple Motor – Youth will learn what makes motors work in a hands-on workshop using simple materials and instructions on Wednesday, July 12 from 11:00 a.m. – 12 Noon at the Applegate Library, 18485 N. Applegate Rd.
