SOCAN Organic Farm Food Management Techniques

The threats posed to our natural systems (forests, woodlands, grasslands, etc.) by the climate chaos resulting from global warming are known to most of us.  But hitting even closer to home are the potential impacts on our food production system.  The next regular monthly Southern Oregon Climate Action Now general meeting on Tuesday May 30th at 6:00 pm at the Medford Public Library will feature a panel discussion on this issue. With notable local experts, we will explore how food production and produce availability in stores is likely to be influenced.

On the production end, Josh Cohen from Barking Moon Farm in the Applegate Valley will discuss how the food management techniques in the organic farm promote resilience to climate variability. He will also consider how well he anticipates these techniques will stand the test of time should we not reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as science recommends.  The retail side of the food chain will be addressed by Anne Carter of the Medford Food Coop who will provide a perspective on how retailers are addressing the vagaries of local food availability in an era of climate change
The program is free and open to the public.
