Historic Beekman House: From Comfort to Excess

On Saturday, May 20, costumed docents share insights into the evolution of style in the late 1800s through the lens of the Cornelius Beekman family - one of Jacksonville’s wealthiest and most prominent pioneer families. Docents will speak about how, by the late 1800s, the sparsely furnished parlor of pre-Civil War America was supplanted by public rooms crowded with furniture and display items. Beekman House, 470 E. California Street, Jacksonville, OR; May 20, 12pm-4pm; one-hour tours, beginning every 15 minutes; $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students. Free lawn activities feature demonstrations and displays by members of the Artists Workshop of Southern Oregon.
