Mappamundi A Musical Travlogue
Musica Matrix presents Mappamundi, A Musical Travelogue with internationally recognized multi-instrumentalist Shira Kammen and her accomplished cohort Jim Oakden, joined by Kevin Carr and Pat O’Scannell, with an opening set by the Gothic Voices medieval choir.
Join us in a melodic and rhythmic journey visiting Brittany, Galicia, Bulgaria, North America and England in the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Now, with multi-instrumentalist Shira Kammen. You will hear the sounds of voice, gaita, medieval fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, recorder, medieval harp, viola da gamba, accordion, mandolin, fiddles, and more! A workshop entitled:
‘An Excellent Adventure, an exploration of the journey from Gregorian Chant to polyphony’, will take place on the following day from 10am-1pm. Tickets to the concert are $20: pay only $5 more to attend the workshop on the following day. You may attend the workshop only for $25.
No reserved seating, doors open at 6:30pm.
The program is presented by Musica Matrix, Ashland’s new Non-Profit Organization, Bringing History to Life Through Music! Musica Matrix provides a variety of programs and services to promote, preserve and perform Historic Music in Southern Oregon. This includes support for educational programs, community-based ensembles and annual concert cycles by local groups, and well-known Artists from outside the community.
