Recycling Reframed – A lifecycle approach to waste management

At the March (Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) meeting, Craig Filip, Western Region Materials Management Technical Assistant, Oregon DEQ, presents an overview of recent changes to “Opportunity to Recycle” rules and DEQ’s plans for implementation. Laura Leebrick, Community & Governmental Affairs Manager, Rogue Disposal & Recycling, discusses how Rogue Disposal & Recycling is preparing for these changes. She will also consider Rogue Disposal’s efforts to work with their customers on reducing contamination in the recycling stream.

Both Craig and Laura share their thoughts on transitioning from a “diversion” based model of measuring recycling success to new ways of characterizing success based on environmental outcomes, including climate concerns.

Tuesday, February 28, 6pm-7:30pm. Medford Public Library, 205 Central Avenue.  SOCAN monthly meetings, held the last Tuesday of each month, are FREE and open to the public.
