The Rogue Valley Symphony, led by conductor and music director Martin Majkut, is the only professional orchestra in Southern Oregon offering a full subscription season of concerts. Founded in 1967, the Symphony celebrates its 51st year beginning in September of 2018. The Symphony will perform a six-concert Masterworks Series between September and May in the three major cities of Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass. The 51st Season will feature two commissioned works by living composers in addition to beloved classics. Soloists during the 2018-19 season will include world-renowned pianist Peter Serkin, violinist Livia Sohn, pianist Lise de la Salle, violist Roberto Diaz, audience favorite, pianist Jeffrey Biegel and local pianist and gem, Alexander Tutunov. A holiday candlelight series will be performed in December. Now in his 9th season as Music Director, Martin Majkut has won the hearts of Rogue Valley audiences for his engaging and adventuresome programming, his entertaining pre-concert lectures, and the tremendous artistic growth of the orchestra during his tenure. The Symphony also has a multi-faceted education and community engagement program entitled Link Up, curriculum provided by Carnegie Hall. This program is provided by RVS to the Phoenix Talent Elementary School District free of charge. Students and accompanying adults are able to attend Grants Pass performances through a free student voucher program, "Connecting with the Classics."
